Information Technology Co Module for Medical Course

The computer unit of the university provides a course in IT during the introductory period and first term. Students must pass the examination in IT to be permitted to appear at the first examination for medical degrees.
Objectives
The co-module in IT is expected to provide sufficient knowledge, skills and attitudes to make use of the Information Technology for effective learning and practice of medicine.
- Have basic understanding of the hardware of the computer system and their functions.
- Be able to protect the computers from malware such as viruses.
- Be able to protect themselves from harmful effects of using computers.
- Be aware of computer ethics.
- Be able to do word processing to prepare documents such as notes, research reports etc.
- Be able to use spreadsheet packages for their needs.
- Be able to develop databases regarding reference material, notes, patient details etc for future retrieval.
- Be able to prepare and do effective presentations using computers.
- Be able to use statistical packages to do data analysis for their needs.
- Be able to use internet to perform literature search and electronic communication.
The teaching and learning activities include Lectures for theoretical aspects and practical training for applications with close guidance.
